r.i.p. blogs with jobs

Wednesday, September 12th, 2007

As the number of blogs providing job content has become too numerous for one person to manage, this site will henceforth be a depository for employment-related content. I may still write reviews every now and then, interspersed with general content, but they’ll be few and far between. R.I.P., Blogs with Jobs.

A new service promises to make the upkeep of Blogs with Jobs a little more challenging.

JobCoin is a new service that enables bloggers to “easily” add a job board to their site. How does it work?

Your blog has a lot of readers who share interests and have skills in that area. Employers want to reach people who have those skills. Add a job board to your blog and set a price to post jobs on it. Now employers pay to reach your readers, your readers learn about relevant jobs, and you receive money for making this possible.

The company takes 30 percent of revenues. PayPal is the mode of payment. Here’s a live example.

From recent experience with jobs on Cheezhead, maintaining a successful, relevant job board on your blog is no easy task. I’m sure a lot of bloggers will take advantage of this new system and others like it, but time will tell if a majority stick with the program.

I’m skeptical.

welcome to blogs with jobs

Saturday, September 23rd, 2006

Blogs are tremendous mediums for attracting loyal, everyday readers. Depending on the topic, audiences can be highly targeted and in high demand as well.

For this very reason, blogs are exceptional ways for employers to reach the eyeballs of top talent to fill their job openings. In many cases, readers of blogs pass for what’s referred to as “passive job seekers,” or those already employed but open to other opportunities.

As a result, a growing number of blogs are providing the ability to post jobs.

While I believe the trend of blogs with jobs is a trend that’s growing for good reason, as well as a strategy that’s potentially very effective in the foreseeable future, I also believe the ability for an employer to cut through the clutter of the various blogs that have job posting functionality is going to be difficult.

That’s why I’ve launched Blogs with Jobs: To help employers and the rest of the world make sense of this growing phenomenon.

In the coming days, I’ll be reviewing various blogs that give their readers access to jobs. Every entry will be categorized and searchable, based on their target audience. A blog attracting a loyal technology will be categorized under “technology” for example. Each review will have a ratings system for users to get a better understanding of the blog’s overall appeal, as well as allow for comments.
