Retailer hhgregg recently announced its plans to hire 600 new employees throughout Florida. The company hopes to create about 50 jobs in each of its new stores, nine of which are to be located in South Florida and one of which is to be located on the Treasure Coast, according to the South Florida Business Journal.

The available jobs are mainly for commissioned sales associates, warehouse staff, and customer service merchandisers. Hhgregg, which mainly sells appliances and electronics, hopes to open the new stores by this summer.

Plans to build a new hospital in Australia will result in the creation of hundreds of new oncology jobs and other healthcare positions.

Government officials in New South Wales recently approved plans to build a new private hospital in West Wollongong. The $114 million project is expected to create many new jobs and bring new treatment options to local residents.

The new hospital will potentially create 90 temporary jobs during construction and another 300 permanent positions once the facility is open. Ramsay Health Care, which operates Figtree Private Hospital, is being considered to run the new facility as well.

Hundreds of new Miami tech jobs are being created by a bilingual customer service center.

Comcast recently announced its plans to open a new Center of Excellence in Miramar, a nearby suburb of Miami. The center will create more than 300 new jobs for bilingual customer service representatives who can provide support to Spanish-speaking customers.

“We’ve been extremely focused on bringing an enhanced entertainment experience to the growing Hispanic community, but just as important is delivering top-notch service,” Filemon Lopez, senior vice president of the Florida East Coast Region for Comcast, said in a statement. “By creating a dedicated Spanish-language Center of Excellence, we can leverage our investments in sophisticated tools and advanced technology, and deliver specific employee training on our unique Hispanic product offerings to deliver a consistently high quality experience to Spanish-speaking consumers.”

The United Kingdom’s National Health Service is making cuts to important programs and services as the agency strives to stay within budget. The program is expected to save £20 billion, or about $31.5 billion, by 2015.

When it comes to the programs that will be cut, everything from mental health and physiotherapy to maternity services and elective surgery are on the table, causing many people to worry about increased wait times and a lack of available services.

A recent report from Independent Sector found that volunteers are increasingly valuable to nonprofit organizations. The estimated monetary value of a volunteer reached $21.36 per hour in 2010, which is up from $20.85 the previous year.

During 2009, about 63.4 million people - or about 26.8 percent of the adult population - volunteered for a nonprofit organization, which is an increase of 1.6 million volunteers from 2008. Those volunteers donated 8.1 billion hours of time worth $169 billion.

The state of construction jobs in Houston and throughout Texas appears to be improving along with the rest of the nation, although signals of a full recovery still remain mixed.

A recent report from the Associated General Contractors of America found that Texas added the most construction jobs over the last year, even as the state lost the most construction jobs between January and February of this year.

Year over year, Texas added 31,500 construction jobs, an increase of 5.6 percent. The construction industry isn’t out of the woods just yet, however, as the state lost 4,300 construction jobs, a decrease of 1.4 percent, at the beginning of the year.
