Jobs in Fort Lauderdale Increase

As the area’s unemployment rate decreased, more jobs in Fort Lauderdale were added at the end of last year.

During December 2009, the Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach-Deerfield Beach area’s unemployment rate decreased from 10.2 percent to 10 percent, following an increase from 9.7 percent during November. The decrease places the area’s unemployment rate even with the national rate of 10 percent.

The Fort Lauderdale area had a total non-farm employment of 743,700 workers during December, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is up from 740,100 workers during November, but a 2.5 percent decrease from December 2008.

Fort Lauderdale Teaching Jobs

There are several places to search for Fort Lauderdale teaching jobs.

When it comes to primary and secondary education, Broward County Public Schools is the largest school district in the Ft. Lauderdale area, operating 23 public schools throughout the city. The 2007 Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test for public schools in Ft. Lauderdale awarded 10 of 16 elementary schools “A” or “B” grades, while one of four middle schools received that grade.

Three schools, including Sunland Park Elementary School, Arthur Ashe Middle School and Boyd Anderson High School, received failing grades on that assessment. However, none of those schools received a failing grade twice in a four-year period, making them eligible for the Opportunity Scholarship Program under Florida’s education plan.
