Medical Jobs in Denver See Biggest Yearly Increase

More medical jobs in Denver were added on a yearly basis at the end of last year than jobs in any other industry.

During December, the unemployment rate in Colorado took a slight jump, from 8.6 percent to 8.8 percent. That rate is still lower than the national average of 9.4 percent. The Denver area had an unemployment rate of 8.7 percent during November.

The Denver-Aurora-Broomfield area employed roughly 1,195,800 people during December, which is just up from 1,195,700 people during November and a .7 percent increase from the previous year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Denver Chef Jobs at Institutions and Cafeterias

Hundreds of Denver chef jobs (Click here) at institutions and cafeterias will be available throughout the next decade.

Institution and cafeteria cooks are responsible for cooking large quantities of food for institutions such as schools, hospitals, and cafeterias. The majority of employers require these cooks to have at least a high school diploma and undergo some long-term on-the-job training.

Employment of institution and cafeteria cooks in the Denver area is expected to increase from 2,594 workers during 2009 to 3,015 workers by 2019, resulting in 421 additional jobs and an average annual growth rate of 1.5 percent.

Denver Restaurant Jobs for Hosts and Hostesses

Hosts and hostesses typically work in restaurants, lounges, or coffee shops. Their main responsibilities are to welcome customers, seat people at tables, make sure that visitors receive quality service, and ensure the facility is up-to-par.

There are generally no educational requirements in order to become a host or hostess, with the majority of employers hiring applicants who have a high school diploma or less. However, most employees do have to undergo some on-the-job training.

Denver Nursing Jobs, Consumers Protected by New Grant

The Colorado Division of Insurance recently announced that it will receive a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services as part of the federal Affordable Care Act, which is meant to provide states with $250 million in Health Insurance Premium Review Grants over a five-year period.

Colorado will use the funding to improve the oversight of health insurance premium increases, take action against insurers who make unreasonable rate hikes, and ensure that consumers receive fair value for the money they pay into premiums.

Denver Jobs Among Thousands Created by Colorado Clean-Tech Companies

A clean-tech company that will create Denver jobs is among six throughout Colorado and nearly 200 in the nation to receive funding.

Gov. Bill Ritter recently announced that six clean-tech companies received $75.2 million in advanced energy manufacturing funds through the Department of Energy from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The funding will be used to create jobs, increase manufacturing and grow Colorado’s New Energy Economy.

“The Recovery Act is giving a much-needed boost to Colorado companies that are creating jobs and helping to drive the New Energy Economy,” he said. “These tax credits will help our companies grow and keep Colorado on the road to economic recovery.”
