Dallas Restaurant Jobs Feeling Sting of Economy

Those with Dallas restaurant jobs may be seeing fewer customers, working fewer hours, and bringing in less money.

The National Restaurant Association’s Restaurant Performance Index dropped by .3 percent to 99.4 during August, marking the index’s second monthly decline in a row. The decrease is mainly due to fewer patrons and lower sales.

During August, the current situation index dropped by .5 percent to 99.3, while the expectations index declined by .1 percent to 99.5.

Dallas Hospitality Jobs Keep Traveler Costs Low

Those with Dallas hospitality jobs (http://benchmarkinwestlake.com) are doing a good job at keeping costs low for travelers.

TripAdvisor recently released its yearly TripIndex, which is meant to help travelers pinpoint destinations where they’ll get the best value. The report compares 50 top tourist cities throughout the world, including 15 cities in the U.S.

Dallas is ranked as the second-best destination in the U.S., with a TripIndex of $210. The rankings are based on a projected total cost, which includes one night at a four-star hotel, a core food item, an alcoholic drink, and a taxi ride.

Texas Sales Jobs Lost in Amazon Tax Battle

Several Texas sales jobs will be axed as one of the most successful online retailers closes its local distribution center.

Amazon.com is planning to close a distribution center located in a suburb of Dallas, a move that will result in the loss of 119 sales jobs (Click here). The state has criticized the online retail company for owing millions of dollars in state sales tax, while Amazon has criticized Texas for having unfavorable regulatory policies.

Last year Comptroller Susan Combs sent Amazon a bill for $269 million. The company owes the state that money - which includes taxes, penalties, and interest from 2005 to 2009 - after failing to collect taxes on online sales made in Texas.

Dallas Sales Jobs Benefit from Holiday Shopping

Dallas sales jobs are strongly benefiting from the holiday shopping season.

The National Retail Federation is now predicting that holiday spending will increase by 3.3 percent when compared to last year, up from the organization’s original forecast of 2.3 percent. Several factors - including stock market stability, income growth, and increased savings - account for the adjustment.

During November, retail industry sales throughout the nation increased by .8 percent when compared to October and 6.8 percent when compared to 2009. The U.S. Department of Commerce found that retail sales increased by .8 percent when compared to October and 9.2 percent when compared to last year.

Dallas Tech Jobs in Dentistry

Dental laboratory technicians work with dentists to fill prescriptions for crowns, bridges, dentures, and other dental prosthetics. Dallas Healthcare Jobs, Education Jobs Account for Yearly Growth

Dallas healthcare jobs and education jobs accounted for the majority of employment growth the city has seen during the past year.

During August, the Dallas area’s unemployment rate dropped to 8.4 percent after remaining at 8.5 percent for two months in a row. That decrease keeps the area’s rate below the national average of 9.6 percent.

The Dallas-Plano-Irving area had a total non-farm employment of 2,021,900 workers during August, which is down from 2,023,900 workers during July and a 1.2 percent increase from last year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
