Colorado Jobs Training in Weatherization

A new round of federal funding will help train workers for Colorado jobs in weatherization.

The U.S. Department of Energy recently awarded a $1 million American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant to the Colorado Governor’s Energy Office to expand and improve weatherization job training throughout the state.

“Weatherization helps families save money and reduce their energy consumption,” Gov. Bill Ritter said. “This grant will help build our workforce to meet the increased demands for energy efficient services. The growth of the weatherization program shows that Colorado’s New Energy Economy is growing strong and helping our economy recover quicker and stronger.”

Colorado Jobs Decline

Even though the state’s unemployment rate began to decline, more Colorado jobs (Click here) were lost last month.

During September, Colorado saw its unemployment rate decrease from 7.3 percent to 7 percent, which is lower than the national unemployment rate 9.8 percent. This follows the state’s unemployment rate decrease during August from 7.8 percent to 7.3 percent.

Colorado had a total non-farm employment of 2,238,300 workers during September, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is down from 2,245,200 workers during August and a 4.9 percent decrease from last year.
