Arizona nursing jobs (Click here) could be negatively impacted by a huge decline in the state’s Medicaid rolls.

“Moving Ahead Amid Fiscal Challenges: A Look at Medicaid Spending, Coverage and Policy Trends,” a new report from the Kaiser Family Foundation, found that many states are projecting slower Medicaid growth during 2012.

While the rough state of the economy forced 11 states, including Arizona, to reduce their Medicaid budgets this year, most states are taking measures to prevent further declines in enrollment.

After increasing for three months in a row, Arizona’s unemployment rate dropped from 9.4 percent to 9.3 percent during August. Unfortunately, the state’s rate is still higher than the national average of 9.1 percent.

Arizona employed a total of 2,408,400 workers during August, which is up from 2,393,000 workers during September and a 1.7 percent increase from last year, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Despite any concerns that the economy will slow business travel this fall, a new report found that will not be the case. This is good news for any occupation tied into the travel industry, including everything from sales jobs Phoenix Arizona (Click here) to hotel jobs.

The “Back to Business Travel Season” from Best Western found that a majority of people are still planning to travel for business reasons this year. That stability will support a number of jobs directly tied to the industry.

“Despite uncertainly on Wall Street, we expect to see a growing number of business travelers back on the road this fall as advance bookings at our hotels are up 8 percent this fall over last,” Dorothy Dowling, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Best Western International, said in a statement.

The merger of two prominent children’s neuroscience programs could eventually raise the number of nursing jobs Phoenix has to offer.

Last month, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center and Phoenix Children’s Hospital announced plans to combine their pediatric neuroscience programs and open the Barrow Neurological Institute at Phoenix Children’s Hospital.

“Our core mission has been to provide the best care for children with neurological disorders,” Neurosurgeon P. David Adelson, MD, who will lead the new institute, said in a statement. “This affiliation is particularly exciting because it immediately elevates the level of pediatric care locally as well as regionally.

Why do older people tend to get sick more easily than their younger counterparts? Finding an answer to that question is the goal of a new joint project that will support many research positions and RN jobs Arizona.

The University of Arizona Department of Immunobiology and the Arizona Center on Aging were recently awarded an $11.8 million contract from the National Institutes of Health to study the aging population’s declining immunity.

The overall goal of the five-year “Protective Immunity in Special Populations” study is to understand why elderly people are often more susceptible to certain health problems and pinpoint what can be done to change that.

A large number of Arizona nursing jobs (Click here) could be in danger if the state eliminates its local Medicaid program.

Last month, the Arizona Senate Appropriations Committee voted in favor of a bill that would effectively get rid of the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, a move that would result in the loss of thousands of jobs and millions of dollars for the local economy.

AHCCCS, which basically serves as the state’s Medicaid agency, is responsible for providing healthcare services to residents that meet certain income and other requirements. The program is being targeted for elimination because of Arizona’s budget troubles, including a lack of state and federal funding for the program.
