Technology Sales Jobs Phoenix from Decatur Move
A growing electronics company is increasing the number of technology sales jobs Phoenix (Click here) has to offer.
Decatur Electronics Inc. is planning to move the company’s main manufacturing facility from Decatur, Ill., to Phoenix, Ariz. during the next 90 days. Founded in 1955, Decatur is one of the oldest public safety product manufacturers in the nation.
The company will move into a 50,000-square-foot facility next to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. The new facility will allow Decatur to improve supply, manufacturing, and distribution efficiency; prepare for future growth; and better deal with increasing international demand.
While the Illinois plant currently focuses on producing radar to public safety organizations, the move will allow Decatur to offer new products, including in-car video, trailer displays, message boards, and enhanced license plate recognition units.
The move is part of a larger strategy by Soncell North America and its parent company Bowmer and Kirkland, which acquired Decatur in 2009, when Soncell was created. American Emergency Products, another division of Soncell, has operations in the same building that Decatur is moving into.
Tim Roberts, customer service manager for Decatur, told the Herald & Review that the company’s Illinois plant is not shutting down overnight, and that services and deliveries will continue to run smoothly during the transition process.
Decatur currently employs 43 people in Illinois. Anyone affected by the move will be offered outplacement services (learn more here), including help with resumes and interviewing. On the positive side, the move will be a boost to the Phoenix area’s economy, bringing more jobs to the area.
During November, the Phoenix area’s unemployment remained at 8.5 percent for the second month in a row, after dropping from 8.9 percent during October. The area’s rate is lower than the national average of 9.4 percent.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Phoenix-Mesa-Glendale area employed 1,741,700 workers during December, which is up from 1,738,600 workers during November and a 1.7 percent increase from the previous year.
