The employment situation for those seeking Miami nursing jobs and many other positions has improved.

During April, the Miami-Miami Beach-Kendall area’s unemployment rate decreased from 12 percent to 11.3 percent, which is still higher than the national average of 9.9 percent.

The Miami area had a total non-farm employment 980,700 workers during April, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is up from 978,900 workers during March, but a 1.3 percent decrease from last year.

Here’s a look at how each industry fared over the month and year:

• Mining and logging - Employment remained even over the month and year with 300 jobs.
• Construction - Decreased from 33,700 workers during March to 33,600 workers during April, which is an 11.8 percent decrease from last year.
• Manufacturing - Lost 100 jobs over the month and saw its workforce decline by 7.1 percent over the year to 35,500 workers during April.
• Trade, transportation and utilities - Added 1,400 jobs between March and April, but decreased by .9 percent over the year, to 244,100 jobs.
• Information - Lost 100 jobs over the month and decreased by 10.7 percent between April 2009 and April 2010 to 16,700 workers.
• Financial activities - Decreased by 1,100 jobs between March and April and 6.4 percent over the year to 61,100 workers.
• Professional and business services - Declined by 1,300 jobs over the month and 1.2 percent over the year to 129,800 workers.
• Education and health services - Added 700 workers between March and April and increased by 3.3 percent over the year to 161,200 jobs.
• Leisure and hospitality - Added 300 jobs over the month, but decreased by 1.5 percent between April 2009 and April of this year, to 103,100 workers.
• Other services - Increased by 300 jobs over the month, but declined by 2.3 percent over the year, to 38,800 workers.
• Government - Added 1,800 jobs between March and April and increased by .8 percent over the year to 156,500 workers.
