Oregon Teaching Jobs for Elementary Educators

Anyone who loves working with children and loves to share their knowledge should consider Oregon teaching jobs in elementary schools.

Elementary school teachers are responsible for teaching pupils in public or private schools at the elementary level basic academic, social, and other formative skills. In the near future, trained workers will have the best chance finding a job in order to fill replacement openings, according to the Oregon Employment Department.

During 2008, employment was estimated to be much larger than the regional average. Positions for elementary school teachers should grow at a slightly lower rate than the regional average, but there will be more job openings than the regional average.

Specifically, the number of jobs is projected to increase from 15,193 during 2008 to 16,059 by 2018, accounting for an additional 866 jobs and a growth of 5.7 percent. The Crook-Deschutes-Jefferson area will see the biggest increase in job openings, growing 12.9 percent during the same time.

Although specific licensing is not required, you must have a bachelor’s degree in order to gain the necessary skills to work as an elementary school teachers. However, those with a master’s degree will have a competitive advantage in the current labor market.

During 2008, private employers accounted for 1,955 jobs, while local employers accounted for 13,238 jobs. of the private employers, educational services employed 1,692 workers and other services employed 259 workers. Of the local employers, educational services employed 13,232 workers.

Some related occupations include: middle school teachers, kindergarten teachers, secondary school teachers, preschool teachers, special education teachers, vocational education teachers and teacher assistants.

Oregon’s education and health services industry employed 224,400 workers during January, according to the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is the same as during December 2009, but a 1.1 percent increase from last year.
