Dallas Retail Jobs

There are plenty of positions to choose from if you’re looking for Dallas retail jobs.

One of the most popular jobs for retail workers are those in clothing and clothing accessories stores. According to the Texas Workforce Commission, establishments in the sector include regular clothing stores, shoe stores, jewelry stores, luggage stores and leather goods stores.

Companies within the clothing and clothing accessories stores sector sell new clothing and clothing accessories merchandise from fixed point-of-sale locations. Most establishments in the sector employ staff members that are knowledgeable about fashion trends and the matching of styles and colors, as well as the combination of clothing and accessories.

Family clothing stores by far account for the majority of establishments in the sector, making up about 50 percent of entities, followed by women’s clothing stores at 24 percent, other clothing stores at 9 percent, men’s clothing stores at 6 percent, children’s and infants’ clothing stores at 6 percent and clothing accessories stores at 5 percent.

On average, employees in jewelry, luggage and leather goods stores earn the highest pay in the sector, making $575 per week during Q1 of this year. Shoe store employees earn the second-highest salary, making an average of $342 per week, followed by employees in clothing stores, earning an average of $315 per week.

Unfortunately, the current economic recession has taken its toll on establishments in this sector throughout Texas. From Q1 2008 to Q1 2009, employment in clothing stores has decreased by 3.6 percent; employment in shoe stores has declined by 2.9 percent; and employment in jewelry, luggage and leather goods stores has dropped by 10.2 percent.
