Pre Employment Tests for School Bus Drivers
Pre employment tests are beginning soon for those interested in a job as a school bus driver.
Student Transportation of America, Ltd., is hosting an online job fair from February 1 to 22 to fill school bus driver positions in California, Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Ontario, Canada.
STA is one of the country’s largest school transportation providers. The online job fair is part of the company’s plan to continue growing. STA currently has more than 6,000 employees who operate more than 5,600 school vehicles, according to an article by Fox Business.
“Kids have to go to school despite the ups and downs of the economy,” Dina Cooper, STA director of recruiting, said in the article. “Budget deficits are prompting many more school districts to consider the benefits of contracted student transportation and we’re expecting to win a record number of new business bids in the coming months.
“This growth is driving our need for additional employees,” Cooper continued. “Job cuts at other transportation businesses mean the pool of qualified drivers and mechanics has grown and we’re looking forward to welcoming these well-qualified men and women to our growing team.”
School bus drivers are responsible for transporting children to and from school each day along established routes. Additional runs and charter work are also available. Employees usually work 20 to 30 hours per week and are offered a professional work environment, flexible schedules, competitive wages and healthcare options.
“We’re looking for people who enjoy making a difference in children’s lives, “Cooper added in the article. “This is a great job for moms who want to have the same schedules as their school-aged children, retirees and college students looking for extra income.”
Candidates also must have a clean driving record and the ability to pass a Department of Transportation physical, a pre-employment drug test and a criminal background check. Those who have experience driving a bus with Commercial Driver’s Licenses (CDL) with P and S endorsements are preferred, but free training will be provided for drivers without school bus experience.
